Blogger Shine: Keri Henderson HAS A Diva State of Mind

| January 10, 2012 | 3 Comments

I love Keri’s blog. Infact, right when I started blogging, that was one of the very popular blogs that I had stumbled upon around the DC area.  I love the so many topics she talks about, her great style and her strong opinions. Very informative blog! Readers meet our own fabulous Blogger Shine of the week, Miss Keri Henderson of A Diva State of Mind.

What inspired you to start blogging?

When I started my blog, I was working retail and off two weekdays per week .I was bored because all of my friends were at working during the day while I was home.  A friend suggested I start blogging.  I didn’t think I had much to blog about, but I decided to give it a try anyway.

Who do you think is the most influential personality in fashion world and why?

I don’t think there is one personality that is the most influential in the fashion world. I think there is enough room in the industry for everyone to make their own individual impact.

What is one essential item in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?

Hmm that’s a tough one. I’d guess I’d have to say that I couldn’t live without scarves.  I have a rack on my door full of them! I love scarves because they can be worn with just about anything and are wearable all year round.

If you could give one piece of style advice, what would it be?

Great style begins with confidence! It’s important that women are comfortable in their own bodies.

Who is your fashion icon?

I don’t have a fashion icon but I do love Tracee Ellis Ross’ style.

How have you developed your style?

My style is continuously evolving.  I’ve definitely been influenced by the women in my family. My mother and grandmother love accessories and let’s just say that has rubbed off on me!!

What is your favorite outfit that you’ve worn?

I’m not sure I have a favorite. But an outfit I really do love is one I wore for my 25th birthday: black & fuchsia fitted printed dress, black hoop earrings, fingerless leather gloves and black pumps.  The dress was definitely the center of attention!

What beauty products can’t you live without?

Lip gloss and eye shadow. These are my go to products when I don’t feel like putting on a full face of makeup.

What do you wear on vacation/holiday? Favorite pair of shoes/boots?

On vacation, I like to wear lightweight clothes. Most of the time, my vacation is to a warm climate so the wardrobe usually consist of lots of summer dresses, flat sandals and sunglasses.

My favorite boots are my Sam Edelman Pierce Over-The-Knee boots. They are AMAZING!!!

Do you prefer designer or Vintage? Where do you shop?

I really don’t have a preference.  I recently purchased my first vintage piece. I shop all over from Banana Republic to ASOS online.

Being in the blogging industry, where do you see fashion and technology heading?

I think technology will continue to help the fashion industry grow and reach a broader audience.   Technology has allowed consumers and designers to be more accessible to one another i.e. blogging and twitter.  Bloggers are able to share brands with their readers and consumers have access to all of the things their favorite designers are doing by following them on twitter including the launches of collections, in-store appearances, etc.  Technology has definitely improved the way the fashion world spreads news and advertises to consumers.

Where do you see your blog headed in a few years?

I see the blog shifting in the direction of providing more styling advice. In the past year, I have used the site to launch my personal styling business.  In a few years, people will not only think of A Diva State of Mind as a lifestyle blog but a place they can go to for personal styling services.

What advice do you have for up and coming fashion blogs like us?

Be yourself! Figure out what format in terms of fashion blogging reflects who you are as an individual. For some that may be outfit posts; for others it may be following celebrity fashion. A fashion blog that reflects who you are is what makes it unique from others.
